Sophie Gardner Jewelry’s Hand-Carved Figas

Figas are simply one of my ultimate fashion jewelry obsessions. Till I came throughout Sophie Gardner Jewelry!
I changed schools and ended up at San Diego State, which happened to have a remarkable graduate program for precious jewelry design. I ran down to Carlsbad and went to GIA to get my GG and also finished their Jewelry Design program. Ive been working as a fashion jewelry designer (in some capability), ever given that.”

Figas are just one of my supreme jewelry fixations. Im noticed just recently that they are becoming harder to find and Ive frequently wondered if there were ever brand-new designers out there that would eventually recreate them. Till I came throughout Sophie Gardner Jewelry!
Sophie puts in over 50 hours of carving into one figa, each thoroughly developed with great deals of special details like various end cap styles and equipping them with bracelets. I was lucky sufficient to get to custom-made produce one for my collection and seeing it come to life was so fun. I wound up choosing a blue chalcedony figa, with a studded end cap and 2 various bracelets (one chain and one bracelet). I love how it ended up!
Sophies work is so motivating, I needed to find out more so I asked her some questions:
How did you get into fashion jewelry? Whats your background?
” Like lots of gem geeks I started as a little rock hound. My mothers household is from the Oregon coast and I would invest hours and days on the beach agate searching. My dads mom was a collector of rocks/gems from all over the world. She would let me pick one each time I checked out – – I still have every one – – not to point out boxes and boxes from my own travels.
My mother is a glass artist and growing up I was so sure I would do anything to not need to attempt to make a living out of something innovative. I began school as a graphic style major. I hated the computer part- so that didnt stick. I ended and changed schools up at San Diego State, which took place to have an incredible graduate program for jewelry style. I took a couple classes, fell in love and I ended up with a metal style degree (and figurative sculpture – – which assists with Figas:-RRB-. I ran down to Carlsbad and went to GIA to get my GG and also finished their Jewelry Design program. Ive been working as a fashion jewelry designer (in some capability), ever given that.”
What led you to carving gems? What was the very first piece you carved?
I wanted to attempt to carve my own Figa, but had zero concept where to begin. I messaged other carvers who mainly ignored me, but finally found a couple who helped guide me on the best methods to cut, shape and polish. The first piece I carved that offered me any feeling of accomplishment, or “Hey!
Objectives for the future — — any new collections in the works?
” Honestly, when I carved my very first Figa I felt like so many possibilities were revealed- I mean in art school, hands are constantly the hardest thing to draw/paint. After sculpting one, I was happy of this accomplishment.
