The autopsy results for late rapper Prodigy have been put on hold pending a toxicology report. Early reports suggest his death was the result of
a long battle with sickle cell.
The Mobb Deep star passed away on June 20 after falling ill following a show in Las Vegas. According to TMZ, Prodigy choked on an egg in the hospital the morning of his death, but it’s currently unclear if this contributed to his death. Mobb Deep’s publicist confirmed that the star had been found unconscious on Tuesday morning. He had initially been hospitalized “for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis.”
While the physical autopsy has been completed by the Clark County Medical Examiner, the results will not be made known until a toxicology report is completed. This will take approximately six to eight weeks.
Sickle cell is a disease that affects many, and tweets have poured in calling for the United States to do more to address the issue:

Reports have come in that the sickle cell crisis was triggered by the extreme heat at the Las Vegas show. Temperatures had reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the show, causing Prodigy to pull out of a fan meet-and-greet event scheduled for Saturday night. His security team noticed that he was struggling.
